Any individual found engaging in the act of begging, soliciting, or beseeching others for financial or material assistance, regardless of the method employed, may face imprisonment for a maximum of three (3) months and a fine amounting to no less than Dh5,000 as a consequence of their actions.
As the holy month of Ramadan begins in the United Arab Emirates, the Public Prosecution has issued a warning against the practice of begging, which is illegal under the country’s laws. According to Article 475 of Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021 Promulgating Penal Code, begging is a punishable offense with a jail sentence of up to three months and a fine of not less than Dh5,000.
