Welcome to our Mangrove Campaign page in the UAE! The UAE government has pledged to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030 as part of its efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote sustainability. To achieve this goal, different organizations in the country are collaborating to plant mangroves across various locations.
One such organization is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), which has recently announced its plan to plant 5,500 mangroves in support of the national goal.
Mangroves are highly productive and biologically diverse ecosystems that play a vital role in maintaining a healthy coastal environment. They are home to numerous plant and animal species, some of which are found nowhere else on Earth. Mangroves are also a significant source of carbon sequestration, helping to mitigate climate change by storing large amounts of carbon in their biomass and sediment.
Additionally, they provide a natural barrier against storm surges, protecting coastal communities from the effects of severe weather.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, DEWA has partnered with Emirates Marine Environmental Group to plant 5,500 mangroves in the Jebel Ali Marine Reserve.
This effort aims to support the national goal of planting 100 million mangroves by 2030 and to raise awareness of the importance of mangroves in mitigating climate change and preserving biodiversity.
DEWA’s participation is a testament to the role that businesses and organizations can play in promoting sustainable development and protecting our natural resources.
Planting 5,000 mangroves in one hour
On November 8, 2022, more than 100 members of the NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) community joined forces with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG) to plant 5,000 mangrove trees near Jebel Ali in just under an hour. The initiative, organized by NYUAD Community Outreach, reflects the university’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.
The UAE government’s Mangrove Campaign is a crucial step towards mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting sustainability.
DEWA’s contribution to this campaign is a commendable effort that showcases the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving these goals.
In addition, the collaborative effort between NYU Abu Dhabi and Emirates Marine Environmental Group to plant 5,000 mangroves in under an hour is also a significant contribution towards the UAE government’s goal of planting 100 million mangroves by 2030.
This initiative highlights the importance of protecting and preserving the unique ecosystems of the UAE and serves as an inspiration for other groups to take action toward sustainability and environmental conservation.
Let us all support the government’s initiative by planting mangroves and promoting awareness of the importance of preserving these valuable ecosystems. Together, we can ensure a sustainable future for our future generations.
